Our Commitment to Privacy

Avaan is built with privacy as a core principle. We believe your voice data belongs to you, and we've designed our software to minimize data collection while providing excellent transcription services.

On-Device Transcription (Free)

When using on-device models (free, unlimited):

  • All audio processing happens locally on your Mac
  • No audio data is ever sent to our servers
  • Transcripts are stored locally on your device
  • Works completely offline

Cloud Transcription (Pro Only)

When using cloud models with a Pro subscription:

  • Audio is sent to third-party AI services (OpenAI, Deepgram) for processing
  • We do not store your audio after transcription is complete
  • Third-party services have their own privacy policies that apply
  • You choose when to use cloud features

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Email address (for account management and support)
  • Name (optional, for personalization)
  • Subscription status (for Pro features)

Usage Analytics

We collect minimal, anonymous usage data to improve the app:

  • Feature usage statistics (what features are used)
  • Crash reports and error logs
  • App performance metrics

This data does not include any audio content or transcription text.

Vocabulary Sync (Pro Only)

If you use the vocabulary sync feature, your custom vocabulary entries are stored on our servers to enable syncing across devices. This data is encrypted in transit and at rest.

Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including:

  • HTTPS encryption for all data in transit
  • Encrypted storage for sensitive data at rest
  • Regular security audits
  • Limited employee access to user data

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request deletion of your account and data
  • Export your data in a portable format
  • Opt out of analytics collection

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • Stripe for payment processing
  • OpenAI for cloud transcription (Pro)
  • Deepgram for cloud transcription (Pro)
  • Cloudflare for hosting and security
